Expertise in Communication Design is high in demand in India nowadays. Due to tremendous growth of the creative industry and excellent employment options, today many people are opting for Graphic Design, Advertising, Applied Art, Illustration, Photography and Multimedia courses in India. But very few schools in India at present are offering suitable course to prepare students to face the challenges and demands of the industry today to produce internationally acclaimed design solution.
Once India is developed as a credible destination for a designer, it is expected that India will then move from the position of a product provider to the level of product developer with its own intellectual property rights. To achieve this development, there is a requirement of worldclass institutions which train talents in the field of communication design, who can produce a solution which is cross culture and acceptable in the industry worldwide.
The designer of today is considered as a specialist in solving problems related to Communication Design hence the ability to visualise the concept is a must for graphic design, advertising, illustration, photography and moving image professionals. A designer needs to have skills in Layout, Drawing, Lettering, Typography and Photography, etc.
This programme is geared to assist in developing attitudes, skills and aesthetic sensitivity necessary for these professionals. The purpose is to create awareness of the environment and to arouse the students’ creative faculty. The primary concern of the programme is to introduce the students to the fundamentals of design, to initiate them to design as a creative problem solving process, and to develop a highly evolved ‘design’ attitude and understanding of the relationship with culture and human senses, emotions and feelings.
This programme will help and develop an understanding of both national and international milieu, user needs, applications, processing of design and synthesis. The Programme is geared to inculcate the development of values, attitudes, materials and sensorial skills necessary for any specialisation in visual communication. It aspires to create an awareness of the changing environment by constantly relating the students’ learning to real life situations.
The curriculum is delivered through a mix of project work, lectures, seminars, workshops and assignments in discrete units. The BDes (Hons) Graphic Design course offers a common foundation year that provides the opportunity to explore the broad spectrum of art and design. This introductory diagnostic experience during the first year develop skills that is required to progress in degree level study in the second and third year (levels 4 and 5) moving on to the specialised area of study; followed by year four (levels 6), consisting of selected specialised study. Year four requires students to manage their time, to be self disciplined, to be highly motivated. Independence, originality and professionalism are encouraged. This Stage prepares students for their chosen profession or course of study to postgraduate level
