The SCID Design Research Center(DRC) within the campus is a breeding ground for the budding Industrial Designers. Research, design and prototype production for various automotives happens at the DRC. This approach of on-the job experiential learning alongside the students’ pursuit of an academic qualification gives them an opportunity to observe and participate in the industrial process.
The DRC has signed an MoU with Emote Electric. Emote’s founder and Managing Director, Pranav Singanapalli who holds a masters degree from Northumbria University (UK) has set up a workshop within the campus. With the ever increasing noise pollution and carbon footprints of the vehicles run by petrol and diesel, he and his team of enthusiastic industrial designers at SCID DRC are persistently involved in making vehicles that are both economical and ecological. SURGE, India’s first geared electric bike is one of their accomplished projects.
Creative Institute of Design has at present applied for the membership at the World Design Organization to help create a firm footing in the industry, thereby creating excellent opportunities for the budding designers of India.
The WDO primarily holds the United Nations Special Consultative Status which empowers them to promote, make change and take initiatives of global appeal to support the development and effectiveness of industrial design. It is spread across 40 nations and includes 170 organizations with 150,000 established designers under its wing.
WDO being an apex body of designers, will give our students an opportunity to present their work on a global platform of the WDO student wing, thus competing with the designer students globally. WDO has already approached our Director, Prof. Balaram Singanapalli to enroll the students for the World Design Impact prize, Trophy Competition to be held on 31 May 2021.
Design education is an important tool in developing products and services that add meaningful value to the lives of people. Although this is just the trend, more and more businesses and small enterprises are looking at design as a process than just a business tool.
Investing in research and strategic design faculties is a growing trend in the global design industry. Design has become consumer centric. Every product or service created today absolutely needs to be designed around the end user. It is becoming more and more intuitive, interactive, friendly and multi-sensorial. Design facilitates meaningful innovations to give business that leading edge. The iconic examples of industries with this belief in design are world leaders such as Apple, Google, and Amazon. They symbolise the new wave of success design thinking has on businesses.
Today students are more aware of international design and most definitely have an opinion on every global topic of design innovation. Unlike the earlier generation, this generation intuitively know what is a good quality design. Intensely rooted in their own culture, students know what is good from foreign influences in design. If a student aspires to build a company such as Apple, design knowledge is the fundamental requirement that will unleash the creative potential.
